Zoe D. Walter, age 84, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA and native of Sri Lanka, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
Zoe began her education in Catholic girls' school in Sri Lanka where she went on to practice medicine. She immigrated to the US in 1972 where she began a residency at LSU. After being on staff of LSU Medical Center in Lafayette she began a second residency at UAB in Birmingham, AL. She then became the medical director of Clinical Lab and Transfusion Services of Meharry Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She then joined the US Air force where she ranked as a Lt. Col. stationed in Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AK and Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, FL. After her honorable discharge she returned to Baton Rouge where she was a practicing Pathologist and a parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church.
Zoe is survived by her two sisters, Rita Walter, M.D. of the United Kingdom and Petronella Walter of Sri Lanka; her brother-in-law, Sextus Corea, M.D. of Sri Lanka; and her two nephews, Ravindra Corea of Australia and Harindra Corea of Australia.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vincent Walter and Gertrude DeSilva; and her sister, Lynette Corea.
A funeral service will be held at the Chapel at St. George on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 1:00pm with interment to follow at St. George Mausoleum.
