Yates “Pete” Earl Huff, Jr. passed away on Sunday night, December 29, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born and raised in Oxford, North Carolina. He attended the Oxford Orphanage High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He continued on to North Carolina State University and Hardbarger Business College. He joined the United States Navy and served his country for 6 years as a Deep Sea Diver. After leaving the service, he worked as district manager for Gordon Jewelry Corporation for many years which brought him to Baton Rouge in 1978. In 1982 he and his wife opened their own jewelry store which they ran together for 22 years. After he retired, he enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and loved watching LSU sports of any kind. He never met a stranger and could talk at length to anybody about anything and was always ready with a quick joke. His first love was always his family. He loved being Dad to Kyle, Kelli, and Kasey, and more recently being PawPaw to Sophie, Abby, Zoe, and Julia.
He was a longtime member of St Thomas More Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Teri Fruge Huff, son Kyle Huff and wife Laura, daughter Kelli Huff Morgan and husband John, son Kasey Huff, four grandchildren Sophie, Abby, Zoe, and Julia, sister Paula Huff Hall and husband Al, sister-in-law Betty Huff, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Yates Earl Huff, Sr. and Oza Dement Huff Marks, and brother Wordie Huff. Visitation will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., on Tuesday January 7, 2025, from 9:00 -11:00, followed by Mass at 11:00 conducted by Fr Eddie Martin. His final resting place will be in his family plot at Trinity Crossroads Cemetery in Oxford, North Carolina.
