Windle Laureaux Sholar Jr., fondly known as “W.L.”, was born on January 4, 1937, in Port Arthur, Texas, and relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of two. He went home to be with God on July 1, 2024.
W.L. served in the United States Air Force as an Airman Second Class from 1955 to 1959. He served in the Air Force Reserve until 1963. In 1957, W.L. married Carolyn Ann Martinez. Together they raised three children: Debbie Sholar Johnson (Guy), Windle L. Sholar III, and James Douglas Sholar (Brenda); and his best pup girl, “Dolly”, that was always by his side.
W.L. loved golfing, horses, hunting, fishing and woodworking, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. One of his greatest roles in life was being a Pawpaw to Michelle Johnson Saucier, Crystal Johnson, Kyla Sholar Ray and Travis Dawson Sholar (Brooke); and Great Pawpaw to Jordan and Riley Saucier, Carter and Raegan Ray, Blakely, Tatum and Dawson Sholar.
W.L. was preceded in death by his parents, Windle L. Sholar Sr. and Eva Dixon Sholar; and his son, Windle L. Sholar III.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Caitlin Lopes with Ochsner MD Anderson, and Kim May and Regie Harris with St. Tammany Hospice for their loving care provided during Windle’s final days.
A service to celebrate W.L.’s life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
