Wilma Beatrice Brown Simon was born on October 12, 1933 in Winnfield, Louisiana to Rosie and Leamon Brown, Sr. In 1948, she married Leon Simon, Sr. and they lived in Elizabeth, Louisiana. To this union, 5 children were born.Wilma accepted Christ at a young age. She attended church faithfully and served in various capacities. Wilma was a member of Starlight Baptist Church and later attended Grace Christian Center in Glenmora, Louisiana, Bishop Gerald Simon.
Wilma was a woman of many talents and interests who dedicated her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and aunt. She will always be remembered for the love she had for God. Wilma was an excellent seamstress and cook. She worked many years at Fort Polk Military Base as a civil service employee. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, decorating, hairstyling, writing, and doing taxes for people.
She is survived by four children Eddie Ray (Credia) of Dallas, TX, William Rigsby (Shawanda) of Emporia, KS, Sietta Wilmer (Jonathan) of Baton Rouge, LA, Juanita Anderson (Benjamin) of Spangdahlem, Germany, and sister-in- law Annie Brown of Ruston, LA. Wilma will also be remembered by a host of other relatives including 26 grandchildren and step grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, as well as her step children, Leon Simon, Jr. (Essie) of Dallas, TX, Delores Stagg of Lake Charles, LA and Winnie Cooks of Cedar Hill, TX. Wilma has 5 godchildren: Tamiko Amos, Patricia Boston, Kathy Richey, Fran Simon, and Jimmy Simon.
Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, Rosie and Leamon Brown, her husband, Leon Simon, Sr., her daughter, Shelia Quenita Simon, her grandson, Quinton Du Juan Wilmer, her stepdaughter, Queen Esther Lewis, and her sisters Agnes Brown, Emily Brown Matthews, Rose Brown Sumbler, Mary Lee Brown, Lillie Mae Brown, Cornelius Brown Captain, and brother, Leamon Brown, Jr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, from 12:00PM-2:00PM.
Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 pm.
Interment will take place at Southern Memorial Gardens, 3012 Blount Road, Baton Rouge, LA.
