William Wells

William Smith Bill Wells passed at 8:20pm on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 63 years old, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Erie, Pennsylvania. He was a disabled US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the LSU System. Services will be at Jefferson United Methodist Church, 10328 Jefferson Highway, on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 12 noon. Conducted by Rev. Hulen Warren. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Courtney Wells; Father-in-law and Mother-in-Law, Alvin and Nelwyn Courtney of Brusly, La.; 3 daughters, Shelby Shew Shew Wells and fiance Matthew Rachal; Courtney Shifflett and husband Joseph, Rachel Prudhomme and husband, Seth; 1 son, Jason Murphey and wife Lee Ann; 3 sisters, Alice Moreland and husband, Pat of Hazelhurst, Ms.; Diane V. Thompson and husband, Robert of Bedford, TX; and Nancy Terry and husband, Willie of Jackson, MS.; 1 brother, Dr. Ralph P. Wells and wife Katherine of Jackson, Ms.; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Mickey Hunt of Brusly, La; 7 grandchildren, Sierra, Gabriel and Joshua Prudhomme; Adriana, Aaliyah, Ariana Shifflett and Taylor Broussard. Bill had many nieces, three special to him were Sissy Moreland, of Madison, Ms.; Pamela Barrilleaux and her daughter Kayla Boswell of Brusly, La.; numerous nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. Preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Smith Wells; father, Daniel Heath Wells; stepmother, Amanda Louise Wells; and brother-in-law, John Vaughn.
