William Turnipseed

September 24, 1923 — February 25, 2013

William D. Bill Turnipseed passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the age of 89. He was a native of Mathews, AL and a long time resident of Baton Rouge. Mr. Turnipseed was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and served on the hospital ship, U.S.S. Bountiful, for three years in the Pacific conflict. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Grace Yvonne Ellis Turnipseed three nephews, Allen B. Simmons, Jr., Bryan E. Simmons and wife Carolyn, and Jon D. Simmons three nieces, Dorothy Lee Svendson and husband Doug, Rebecca Quinn and husband Bill, Margaret Jo McCormick and husband George, and numerous other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca and Clarence Lee Turnipseed, Sr. one brother and sisterinlaw, Clarence Lee and Dorothy Turnipseed, Jr., and one nephew, Clarence Lee Turnipseed, III. Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will resume on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 12 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Chris Andrews. Burial will immediately follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Mrs. Turnipseed requests that her privacy be respected following the funeral service.
