William Pierce Raborn, age 81, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017. As the family patriarch, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
William was born August 21, 1936 in Baton Rouge, LA. William graduated from Istrouma High School in 1953 and graduated from Louisiana State University - College of Engineering in 1957. William was a Registered Professional Engineer for 57 years. He worked for Allied Chemical for many years, LDEQ, and LADOTD.
He was in the United States Air Force and Active Reserves from October 1954 until he retired in 1996 as Lieutenant Colonel. He was commander of the 236th combat communications flight.
William was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, LA. He served many years an Elder for First Presbyterian Church.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. He also raised cattle and honey bees.
William is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Raborn; his children, William P. Raborn, Jr., Frank Dean Raborn and wife, Patricia, and Tammy Raborn Kelly; his siblings, Robert L. Raborn; his grandchildren, Mikeal Kelly, Jr., Brandon Raborn, Joel Raborn and wife, Brittany, Jacob Raborn, and Brittany Kelly; and great-grandchildren Scarlett Raborn, Sullivan Raborn and Alaina Kelly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Raborn, Sr.; and siblings, Dewey Raborn, John D. Raborn, Jr., Wiley B. Raborn, Marjorie Raborn Sandifer, and Charles P. Raborn.
The family wants to thank Ollie Steele Burden Manor Nursing Home and The Hospice of Baton Rouge for exceptional care and extraordinary compassion during his illness.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 10:00AM until Funeral Service at 12:00PM. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory cemetery.
