William "Bill" Henry Nestler Jr.
William "Bill" Henry Nestler Jr., age 68, after a 10 year courageous battle with cancer passed away on April 19, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Bill is a graduate of Baton Rouge High School, where he played baseball, football, and basketball. After high school he attended and played baseball for Southeastern Louisiana University. Following his service in the United States Navy in Vietnam, he worked for Exxon Refinery until retiring in 2001 after 33 years of service. He played in numerous softball leagues over the years and later in life had a passion for golf, playing nearly every day. He was admitted to the PGA Hole in One Hall of Fame in May 2009. His life was filled with many dear friends who filled his life with much love and great times.
Bill is survived by his wife of 14 years, Gretchen Nestler; his mother, Ruth Opal Metcalf Nestler; one sister, Sandra Nasello; niece, Jill Nasello Graves and husband Philip and their children Tyler, Garrett, and Georgia; three sister-in-laws, Karen Hartfield and husband James, Deanna Blank and husband Ferrell, and Andrea Hastman; seven nieces and nephews; and 11 great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Henry Nestler Sr.
The family request that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Funeral Home at 12:00 PM.
Bill's wife, Gretchen wishes to extend her most heartfelt thanks to Dr. Abernathy, Dr. Byrd, and their staffs for the wonderful and compassioned care Bill received over the years. She also asks that in Bill's honor, everyone not put off having their screening or colonoscopy to prevent colorectal cancer.
