William "Buck" D. Long, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on April 18, 2025, at the age of 95. Buck was born on December 12, 1929, to William and Dalith Long, in West Monroe, Louisiana.
A proud veteran, Buck served in the U.S. Navy, where he developed a lasting sense of discipline and commitment that he carried into every aspect of his life. Buck's early education earned him a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University, which led him to a successful career as a steel fabricator.
He was a proud member of the Brookstown Baptist Church and the Sherwood Baptist Church, where he valued the fellowship and connection with fellow parishioners.
He is survived by his son, Steve Long; grandchildren Autumn Crochet, Eleanor Blalock, Matt Long, and Kate Long; and great-grandchildren, Eva Crochet, Lauren Crochet, Maria Crochet, Hall Blalock, Grant Blalock and Hunter Blalock.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dalith Spangler Long; his wife of 50 years, Billie Sue Samples Long; and his son, David Long.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
