William Henry Holtman
William "Bill" Henry Holtman born on April 29, 1943 in Port Arthur, Texas, passed away August 4, 2018 at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with family by his side. Kind, server, loving and giving are just a few of the words that describe Bill. As a husband, father and grand-father, Bill had a deep devotion to his family and was always at the ready to help others with their needs.
Bill graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1961 then joined the US Navy. He served as an Electronics Technician on a USS Guardian radar picket ship receiving a Commendation Citation for personal risk during hazardous duty enabling the ship to complete her mission. Bill extended his service during the Viet Nam War and completed his tour in 1966 as a submariner on the USS Sea Poacher. Bill accepted a position with Texaco Research while attending University of Houston then joined the Lockheed Corporation at NASA and had the opportunity to work on the space shuttle project in the mid 1970's. After a 25 yr. career with Texaco and Star Enterprise he retired in June 1998 then began a consulting service as Analyzer Specialist with Holtman Instrumentation Consulting, Inc. until 2011.
A devout Christian, Bill was called by God's grace, and sanctified by His Spirit. In 1983 he was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church, Beaumont Texas Diocese. In 1985 the family moved to Louisiana and Bill was incardinated into the Baton Rouge Diocese and assigned to the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, where he became a member of the Knights of Columbus. He ministered to his church community for 29 years, retiring from active ministry in May of 2014. Bill was a respected friend, mentor, witness and fine example to those that knew him. He will be missed. "…them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him." 1 Thess 4:14.
William Henry Holtman is survived by Sandy his loving wife and friend of 54 years, son William Holtman, Jr. and wife Angelique, daughter Tammy Holtman; grandchildren Michael Holtman and wife Lindsey, Julia Holtman and Madeline Holtman; great-grandchildren Emma Holtman and Everett Holtman; sister Susan Phillips and husband Jim, brother Jerry Holtman. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Ora Lee Holtman and his brother Richard Holtman.
Visitation, August 7, 2018 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, a rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus at 6:30 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 and funeral service, August 8, 2018 at 10:00am, St. George Church Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Dr., Baton Rouge LA 70809. Entombment will follow in the Church's Mausoleum.
