William Elvin Edwards, Jr., 89, was born in Delhi, Louisiana on October 18, 1930 to William Elvin Edwards, Sr. and Gladys Lisenby Markland. Bill was raised in Delhi and later in Baton Rouge. Bill attended Baton Rouge High School and the Jefferson Military Academy in Natchez, Mississippi. He then joined the US Air Force and served as Staff Sergeant. After his time in the military, he attended Louisiana State University and accepted a job at the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development where he worked for more than 30 years. Bill was a member of the Baton Rouge Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and a member of the Baton Rouge Rifle and Pistol Club. When not spending time with his family, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, Cajun dancing, reading and relaxing with his library of music.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 42 years, Myrna Laborde Edwards, his son Scott Edwards and his wife Liese McLean Edwards, granddaughters Lauren Edwards Fournier and her husband Scott Fournier, Sarah Edwards Winkler and her husband David Winkler, and two great-grandsons, Henry William Fournier and Hammond Scott Fournier. He is preceded in death by his mother, sister Nelda J. Edwards, and stepfather Mack G. Markland. Bill passed away on February 19, 2020 in Baton Rouge. A private celebration of his life will be held on October 17, 2020 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dunn, Johnny Dunn, Scott Fournier and David Winkler. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Dunn, Hammond Fournier, Henry Fournier, Blake Weber, Mason Weber and Michael “Nicky” Weber.
