William O. Chapman, Sr., 88, born on February 22, 1925, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Old Jefferson Community Care Center. A native of Louisville, MS and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. William was the youngest of six children and a graduate of the class of 1943 at Decatur High School in MS. He proudly served on the USS Perch SS313 in the Pacific Arena as a Motor Machinists Mate 2nd class, in which he was honorably discharged in 1946. William retired from Westinghouse NA Phillips in 1986 after 30 years of distinguished service. He relocated from Baton Rouge to Diamondhead, MS in 1986 to enjoy retirement with the goal of being an avid golfer. He then returned to Baton Rouge in 2012 to be home with his children and grandchildren. Williams hobbies consisted of gardening, woodworking, traveling, dancing, cooking, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Susan Lanelle Hamilton Chapman daughter, Kathleen Chapman Masey and husband Johnny son, William O. Chapman, Jr. grandsons, Christan Nicholas West, Jared Evan Masey, Brett Joseph Masey, and Grant Michael Masey and numerous nieces, nephews and their children. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph Absalom Chapman, Pearl Richardson Chapman siblings, Claude Marshall Chapman, Joseph Leo Chapman, Paul Hunter Chapman, Clyde Denton Dink Chapman, and Margaret Elizabeth Sis Chapman Ellis and granddaughter, Melissa Elizabeth Masey. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 5 pm to 7 pm and will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 10 am until funeral service at 12 noon conducted by Dr. Juliet Spencer.
