William H "Bill" Carrier of Baton Rouge passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10. Born in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on December 7,1929, to Hazel and Harve Carrier, Bill lived most of his life in Baton Rouge.
Bill graduated from Glencoe High School in Oklahoma where he excelled in football, baseball, and wrestling, winning a high school state wrestling championship title. Following high school, Bill joined the 45th Division of the US Army where he served combat duty with the 1st Cavalry Division in the Korean War and rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. He was most proud of his ten years of military service. Upon his return to the US, he was stationed at Fort Polk in Leesville, Louisiana. After leaving the Army, he indulged his love for food and opened several restaurants there. He met his wife during this time and eventually moved to Baton Rouge.
Bill continued his education at LSU, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He spent his career with East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, serving as a coach, teacher, mentor, and administrator. Bill touched the lives of teachers and students at Glen Oaks, Scotlandville, Lee, and Tara High Schools.
Bill was passionate about many things including his love of antique clocks and watches and was an avid collector, amassing a beautiful collection of museum quality time pieces. He was actively involved in the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, an organization that he served faithfully, holding many leadership positions and earning recognition as a Fellow. Bill also was instrumental in chartering the local chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association. He was a long-time member of University United Methodist Church, participating in the 2X2 adult Sunday school class. Bill loved all sports, particularly LSU Tiger baseball and football.
Above all things, Bill loved his family the most. "Honey," as he was affectionately known to his family, leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life, best friend, and wife of 58 years, Charlotte Stevenson Carrier, and his daughters and their husbands, Stephanie and Don Reynolds and Megan and Tom Lawson. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Christy (Jay) Kirkland, Kelsey Reynolds, Will and Charlie Lawson, one sister, Gladys Grant, and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Elizabeth Nell Carrier and Carma Lee Brock, a brother, Dean Carrier, and a niece, Mary Beth Treat.
