William Benham

November 21, 1964 — April 10, 2013

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven Ecclesiastes 3:1. William Barton Bart Benham passed away on April, 10, 2013 at his home. He fought a long and courageous battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis and its complications. He spent many painful years, however always kept trying and smiling throughout this period. Private graveside funeral services took place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum on Friday, April 19, 2013 and was officiated by Dr. Juliet Spencer, Pastor of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church, where Barton was a charter member. Bart was born in Baton Rouge, LA on November 21, 1964. Except for his college years, he spent his life in Baton Rouge. He attended Episcopal High in Baton Rouge throughout the eleventh grade. He played on the football team and ran track and was recognized for his achievements. Bart graduated from Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge and was recognized by receiving the outstanding military award. Upon graduation from High School, Bart attended freshman year in Hattisburg, MS at U.S.M. transferred to L.S.U. in Baton Rouge for his sophomore year and graduated from Southeastern University in Hammond receiving a B.A. Degree. Bart loved sailing the Gulf with his father in their 37 foot sailboat. He was also an avid historian that loved to read and watched the Military Channel daily. Bart was proud of the men that fought for our country. He is survived by his wife, Cheri C. Benham of Baton Rouge son, William Mitchell granddaughter, Halle Christine Benham of Covington, LA his mother, Judith Day Benham of Baton Rouge one brother and his wife, James R and Diane Benham of Navarre Beach, FL and one nephew, James Aubry Benham of Baton Rouge. Preceded in death by his father, William R. Bill Benham grandparents, R. E. Benham, Sr. and Bertha Babb Benham, Wilbur A. Day, Sr. and Nellie Neal Day. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends and will be remembered for his smile, generosity and kindness. May he rest in peace. Resthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
