Wilbern Everette Dees, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on August 26, 2022 at Baton Rouge General Hospital Bluebonnet at the age of 75. He was born and raised in Ethel, Mississippi and attended Ethel High School. He retired from the United States Postal Service after working there for more than 30 years. Wil had been married to Vicki Lea-Dees for almost 35 years. Being an avid golfer, Wil won a number of tournaments throughout his golf career. He and his wife have been members of Greystone Country Club since it opened in 2006. He played in many couples tournaments with his wife, as well as, mens’ tournaments throughout his lifetime. Wil had played guitar and banjo since childhood, and, later in life, learned to play the violin. Hunting and fishing were also favorite pastimes, but he played golf more than anything else after retirement. Wil also loved to be in the kitchen, cooking meals for his family with fresh vegetables from his backyard garden. He and his wife also loved taking road trips, visiting new cities, and, occasionally, traveling outside of the country to Ireland, England, and Scotland–the golf capital of the world. Wil is survived by his wife, Vicki Lea-Dees and daughters Debbie Chapman and Angela Lea. He is also survived by siblings: Ernie (Vicky), Ruthie (Donald), Sam (Stephanie), Rita (Wilson), Johnnie (Becky), and grandchildren: Markiee Griffin, Jr, Zoe Lea, and Sarah and William Pregeant, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie E. Dees, Sr. and Alice Vivian Clark Dees, as well as, siblings James Earl, Billy Ray, Claude, and Jim along with his son and daughter-in-law Zach and Jenny, and two nephews, Greg and Jamie Dees. Wil attended Woodlawn Baptist Church and loved serving the Lord by playing violin in the church orchestra, singing in the choir, and going on various international mission trips. Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on Monday, August 29th, 2022 from 5PM to 8PM. The following morning, there will be a second visitation beginning at 9 o’clock with service to follow at 11:00. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. The family of Wil wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Brierre, Dr. Tatti, Dr. Banda, and Dr. Walker, along with many other consulting doctors and specialists. The family also wants to recognize the wonderful nurses: April, Chloe, Supriya, Sara, Saraphine, and Claudia for their empathy and dedication to Wil’s comfort and care. His sister, Rita, provided special care in his final days until he went home to be with the Lord.
