We are mourning the loss but celebrating the life of our sweet brother, Wendell Charles Dixon "Charlie", who went to heaven on January 26, 2023 at the age of 70. After graduating from Istrouma Senior High School in 1970, Charlie began his career as an Industrial worker at Vulcan Foundry in Denham Springs, Port Allen Marine Service and, finally, at Honeywell in Baton Rouge until his retirement.
Our parents had eight children, but he was the best of the bunch. He fought to stay with the family he loved so dearly until he just could not fight anymore. Charlie was a positive and loving influence on his brothers and sisters and their families. His favorite people in the world were his little nieces and nephews, especially when they were tiny babies. They nicknamed him "Chaw Chaw" and he adored every one of them.
It is important to remember how Charlie lived his life. He was kind. He was good. He was loyal. He was funny. He gave great hugs and kisses. In fact, you always smelled like his favorite cologne after his hugs. He put family first. He always ended a phone call or visit with the words, "True Love." He never met a stranger and had friends of all ages and walks of life. He was quick to share a funny story or joke with us and was known by all as a kind and gentle man who loved life. One of the joys of his life was spent at Old River at the family camp and more recently at his younger brother's camp. Our father raised his sons to love hunting and fishing and Charlie was his happiest on his 4-wheeler out in the woods with his brothers. He enjoyed playing BINGO and one of his favorite foods was peanut butter. He loved to tease the children in the family, but it was always good naturedly. He once told one of them that they had the power to turn the tv volume up and down just by pointing their finger. How he laughed when they found out he had the remote behind his back! Once you met Charlie, you never forgot him, and he never forgot you!
To cherish his memory he leaves three sisters Frances Dixon, Kathy and Al Sanders, and Carolyn and Sam Royder; three brothers Jimmy and Susie Dixon, Curt Sr. and Mary Dixon, and Sam Dixon; nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him deeply, Billie Dixon, III and Emily Dixon and fiance Nate Goodman, Jill and Norren Jonason, Jodi and Micah Rollins, Janaki Comeaux and fiance Chris Cavell, Katie and Matt Mackay, Brad and Megan Dixon, Megan and Kyle Mautner, Curtis Jr. and Allie Dixon, and Barrett and Kayla Dixon; great nieces and nephews, Jaime Jonason and her fiance Bryan Tablada, Jordan Jonason, Taylor Jowers, Sammy Jowers, Brendan Rollins and Logan Rollins, Lillie Mackay, Eva Mackay and Ali Mackay, Braden Dixon, Brynn Dixon and Brody Dixon, Jase Mautner and Lane Mautner, Millie Dixon and Thomas Dixon, and Emmett Dixon, and a large host of relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his father and mother, Bill Sr. and Fadra Dixon; brother, Bill Dixon, Jr. brother-in-law Kirk Comeaux; and sister-in-law, Barbara Dixon; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at The Lodge at Lane in Zachary for their loving, excellent care of our brother. His time spent there was filled with love and respect. We are forever grateful to all who had a role in his care.
