Wanda Scrams

Wanda Lou LaFon Scrams, 78, died peacefully in her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on February 6, 2017.

A life and homecoming celebration will be held at Grace Life Fellowship, located at 10210 Barringer Foreman Road, Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 10:00 am until services at 11:00am.

Wanda was born on May 1, 1938 in Minatare, Nebraska where she was the youngest of five children, and the only daughter. Growing up in Minatare Wanda attended the Church of Christ. She attended Minatare High School graduating in 1956. She went on to attend college at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Chandron Teaching College in Nebraska, where she earned a teaching degree in 1960. After college Wanda taught elementary school in Nebraska and in Southern California for 13 years. Wanda married Samuel Guy Scrams in 1965, and in 1974 she was blessed with her only child, Susie. In 1993, Wanda moved back to Minatare, Nebraska where she lived for 13 years in her childhood home. During her 13 years in Minatare she worked as a child care provider and took care of the elderly in their homes.

Wanda was also a foster grandparent at the local head start program where she mentored children. In 2005 Wanda sold her childhood home and moved from Minatare Nebraska to live with her daughter, Susie; granddaughter, Shelby; and Son-in-law, Brian, in Baton Rouge. Wanda cherished the time spent helping her grandchildren with homework, teaching them to read, and going to their sporting events. While living in Baton Rouge Wanda attended Christian Life Fellowship Church and Grace Life Fellowship Church.

Wanda is survived by her brother, Snowden LaFon II; daughter, Susanna Stewart; Son-in-law, Brian Stewart; grandchildren, Shelby and Samuel Stewart.

She was proceeded in death by her brothers, Richard Carter, Wes Carter, and Kenneth LaFon; Mother, Hilma LaFon; Father, Snowden LaFon Sr.
