He was a man who loved God and his children; a wonderful father and grandfather. He died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at his home in Baton Rouge at age 85. He was a retired foreman of Sline Industries. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Baton Rouge for 34 years. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Sunday, Jan. 11, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Monday from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Marie Wood Gomez; son, Keith Gomez, of Elgin, Ill.; three daughters, Bridget Day and husband Dennis, Sheryle Teed and husband Tom, and Sharon Gomez Haney; stepson, William Buttons Wood IlI; brother, Lester Gomez and wife Betty, of Georgetown, Texas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lula Bueche Gomez; daughter, Marsha Ann Gomez; grandson, Mekaya Gomez; parents, Walter A. Sr. and Alice Gomez; sister, Gloria McLaughlin; brothers, Dale, Warren and Carlyle Gomez; and daughter-in-law, Carla Harvey Gomez. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and sons-in-law.
