Reverend Dr. W Edmund Carver, age 96 of Prairieville, LA and formerly of Knoxville TN, ascended to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 20, 2024.
Born in Evanston Illinois, Dr. Carver grew up in Colorado. He received his undergraduate degree from Lafayette College in , PA and a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, NJ. As a young man Ed served pastorates in New York City and Cherry Hills New Jersey. He also worked as Executive Vice President of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency. He was called as Pastor to Second Presbyterian Church of Knoxville, Tennessee from 1976-1996. In November of 2016 he was honored as Pastor Emeritus by the session of Second Church. After retiring from Second Presbyterian Church, Dr. Carver served congregations in Florida and Louisiana as an interim pastor.
Dr. Carver was blessed to participate in countless lives as Pastor through baptisms, weddings, pastoral counseling and funerals. He served tirelessly on local and national boards, councils and service organizations, including Maryville College, Shannondale Retirement homes, UTK Presbyterian Center, Knoxville Bicentennial Commission, Tennessee Board of Corrections, Knoxville MS Society, Knoxville United Ministries, and the Rotary Club. His service to the denomination included serving as moderator of United Presbytery, and member of the General Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church, (USA).
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Wallace, sister Josehine Kreutzer and son David Carver. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Norean Carver, children Kevin (Donna), Janine (Mark), Brian (Beth) and Kimberly. Ed is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
A family service will be held on August 8th in Louisiana, officiated by Reverend Dr. Dennis Falasco of Washburn, TN. Dennis also served with Ed at Second Presbyterian Church and they have remained wonderful friends over the years.
