Wade John Labat, whose life touched many hearts, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024. Born on February 6, 1945 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Wade’s journey was one of achievement coupled with profound compassion.
A proud alumnus of both St. Anthony Catholic School and Catholic High School (’63), he graduated from LSU in Mechanical Engineering in 1968, a milestone he cherished alongside his Professional Engineering designation. As the founder of Applied Mechanics, Inc. and AMI Photography, Wade’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished, and his devotion to friendship was exemplified by his use of the French word “ami” (friend). Wade was a friend to all he met and dedicated his life to helping and serving others. This included being a volunteer photographer at events and extended beyond. He generously volunteered for Catholic Community Services and served as Treasurer. Additionally, Wade served as President of the Our Lady of Mercy Usher’s Society. Wade leaves behind a legacy of kindness and service that will long be remembered by family, friends, and colleagues.
He is survived by his daughters, Michèle Labat Wilks (Matthew) and Christine Labat; grandchildren, Ryan Wilks, Camille Wilks, Libbie Labat, and Sophia Labat; sister, Wendy Labat Payment (Tommy); brothers, Cyrus Labat and Errol Labat (Kathy); bonus grandson, Jace Jarreau; and numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and friends throughout the world. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline Billeaudeau Labat and his parents, Edmond and Gloria Labat.
