Vivian Atchison

February 8, 1934 — January 12, 2014

Vivian Weinandt Atchison, resident of Baton Rouge, left this world peacefully and went to her eternal home on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 6:30 am. Vivian Weinandt Atchison was born 291934 in Fordyce, Nebraska to Anthony Regina Beckman Weinandt. She was the third of five children. Her father owned a small farm and the General Store in the town of 102 residents. She attended Mount Marty High School for girls in Yankton, SD. After graduating, she went to work for the phone company in Yankton. It was there that she met the love of her life, Richard H. Atchison. Richard had been honorably discharged from the Navy and was working with Masman Construction Company in Yankton. They were married in Fordyce in April 1957. Masman took them to numerous cities, but finally to Baton Rouge, LA in 1963 where they have made their home since. Survivors are her husband, Richard H. Atchison daughters, Shelly Atchison Gowdy and husband, Wayne Mary Atchison Daffin and husband Terry sons, Steven Michael Atchison and wife Sharye Todd Anthony Atchison sisters, Del Rae Dickes Maurita Diehl brothers, Gerard Weinandt grandchildren, Terrance Andrew Daffin and wife Channel, Michael Cordel Rowell, Christopher Paul Rowell, Wayne Bennett Gowdy, Jr. and wife Amanda, Casey Daffin Wayland and husband Jeremy, Sarah Elizabeth Gowdy, Jessica Lynn Atchison, Matthew Vaughan Atchison, Luke Steven Atchison, Jordan Gabrielle Atchison great Grandchildren, Tyler Andrew Daffin, Bryce Leon Daffin. Preceded in death by parents, Anthony Regina Weinandt stepmother, Evelyn Weinandt brother, Dee Weinandt daughter, Renae Atchison Rowell. Filled with Gods love for her family friends, Vi was involved in her church, The Chapel on the Campus, for over 40 years. She was a member of the choir, and performed in numerous productions. Her hunger to know God led her to be active in her Womens Bible Study Couples Study. She was a mentor to students through Kids Hope and taught Sunday school and worked in nursery. Always generous with her time gifts, she was ready to help and give in any capacity. She loved her family and was dedicated to her husband and children. She was actively involved in their lives and activities. She helped the family prosper by working. She taught PreSchool in her home for six years and then she went to work for the School Board as a bus driver. For over 30 years she carried her precious cargo to from school. All who knew her loved her. Her smile was infectious and positive attitude was one of her most endearing qualities. She was an amazing friend, mother and wife. She loved God with all her heart and put her life and trust in Jesus Christ. Services will be held at the Chapel at the Oaks on Siegen Lane, 9611 Siegen Ln, Baton Rouge, LA 70810. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14th from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. and on Wednesday, January 15th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, with funeral services to follow.
