Virginia Tyler

April 9, 1921 — March 14, 2013

Virginia went home to be with our Lord on Thursday March 14, 2013 at the age of 91. Born April 9,1921 in Youngstown, Ohio where she lived until moving to Baton Rouge, LA in 1984. She was a member of the ItalianAmerican Veterans Asso., where she held numerous officer positions. Was a CCD teacher for the Catholic Church both in Youngstown, Baker and Baton Rouge for over 30 yrs. She worked with the Catholic Diocese in the Foster Grandparents program in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System for 20 years. Virginia, born during the depression, learned how to stay active. As a teen she moved to New York City to work at the bead and button factory where she met her now deceased lifelong friend, Lillian Weinkotz. Upon returning to Youngstown she bought her first home for 700 before her 21st birthday, built bombs to support our troops during WWII at a factory in Vienna, Ohio, managed fast food stores, attended Youngstown State University and the list goes on. The world will miss this undaunted spirit. Survived by two children, Dr. Paul J. Tyler and his partner Cheryl Wilkes and Virginia Ann Tyler, three Grandchildren, Regina Ann Blum and husband Gary Blum, Paul Tyler III and wife Kelly Tyler, Kathleen Ann Marts and husband Devin Marts, five great grandchildren, Rachael Tyler, Brennan Tyler, Gabriel Tyler Marts and Abigail Marts, Meghan Blum Phillips and husband Mark Phillips and two great great grandsons, Cade and Luke Phillips. One of eleven children Virginia is survived by her sisters and brothers, Flora Reese, Nicholas Lefoer, Dominic Lefoer and his wife Irene, Carmel Yozwiak, Theresa Luther, Sally Grace and her husband Dominic and Carol Lefoer, Brother in Law, Tony Perry. Survived by hundreds of nieces, nephews, great, great nieces and nephews too numerous to name. Preceded in death by her parents Angelina Bellino Lefoer and Dominic Lefoer, Her husband of 35 years, Paul Tyler Jr., Sons, Bobby and Dominic Tyler, Great Grandson Mathew Blum, Sisters Nancy Lefoer Lawman, Marie Lefoer Perry, Dolly Lefoer Mills, Sister in Law, Shirley Lefoer, Brothers in Law, Larry Reese, Jerry Lawman and Al Yozwiak, her close nephew Gary Lawman. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 9 am until graveside at 11 am in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family would like to offer a special thank you to all of the staff at St. Clare Manor for their love and care of our beloved Mother and Grandmother.
