Violet R Price recently celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by her family and caregivers. She enjoyed the moment for sure… and even made an attempt to blow out the candles! Violet always loved a good party and for most of her life … being on the go …. traveling and being with family and friends. Her long and rich life came to an end on March 23, 2017.
Violet and her late husband, Rufus Price, Jr had quite the 67 year partnership. They were both from large Baton Rouge families and worked hard and with great discipline to provide their two sons with the best life possible … with every opportunity. After Rufus retired, they split time between their long time home in Baton Rouge's Villa del Rey and their fishing camp on Belle River. Dancing and aerobics were a big part of their lives even as they approached 90 years old. And Violet always made sure that vacations and traveling were part of the family experience.
As a parent, she was very much a part of her sons upbringing … through school and church programs and Scouting as a leader. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star and YAWS, a prayer and social group at her longtime church, Church of the Way, Presbyterian… where she was also a member of the choir. Violet was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, the Council on Aging and she and Rufus travelled extensively with the Cajun Roadrunner bus trips.
She is survived by her sons and their spouses Randy Price and Mark Steffen of Kittery Point, Maine, and Gary and Emma K. Price of Richmond Virginia; her sisters and brothers, Daisy LeBeau, Rosemary Lewis, David Reynolds, Mary Alice Suydam and Earl Reynolds. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rufus; brothers Robert J. Reynolds and Joseph P. Reynolds; and her parents Robert P. and Ida Lee Reynolds.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 9 a.m., with funeral service and burial to happen immediately after at 11 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Aiden Reynolds, Billy Suydam, John T. Lewis, Tom LeBeau, Andrew Reynolds, and Mark Steffen. Honorary pallbearers will be David Reynolds, Earl Reynolds, John W. Lewis and Chris Coleman.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Church of the Way, Presbyterian.
