Victoria E. (Leskowicz) Thomas, formerly of Lexington, passed away in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on the Feast of Christ the King, November 20, 2016, shortly before her 95th birthday. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 61 years, James Dustin Thomas, in 2011. Born in Wilmington, Massachusetts, to Ludwik (Louis) and Katherine Leskowicz, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing. A member of The Greatest Generation, Victoria was proud to have served her country during WWII as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, while her soon-to-be-husband was a pilot in the Army Air Corps/U.S. Air Force.
"Vicki and Dusty" settled in Lexington, where they raised their family and lived for 55 years before relocating to Baton Rouge. After her children were of school age, she returned to work, and for many years was a charge nurse in several of Lexington's nursing homes. She always cared very much for her patients and was a smart and devoted nurse.
Vicki loved gardening and nurtured tree seedlings into beautiful specimens; she had learned Latin plant names from her father, along with a love of Saturday afternoon opera broadcasts. She and her husband spent many hours bird watching along the Concord River. Among her best memories, she recently said, was "picking blueberries" with her family in the woods of Lexington, and car trips to New Hampshire: Lake Winnipesaukee in summer and fall foliage in the White Mountains. Vicki loved a good book and especially poetry.
Victoria is survived by her children: Karen Thomas Wilcox (and her husband, Howard, of Wellesley) and Dustin Harriman Thomas (and his wife, Frances Carlson Thomas) of Baton Rouge. Also survived by her granddaughters, Amanda Thomas Lemmi (and her husband Alan Lemmi) and Hannah Victoria Thomas, all of Baton Rouge.
Victoria's family is grateful to the Hospice of Baton Rouge and Ollie Steele Burden Manor for their compassionate care during her final days.
