Vernon Davis, Sr.

A retired ExxonMobil supervisor with 33 years of service, he died at 3 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at his residence in Central. He was 82, a native of McComb, Miss., and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Thursday, May 7, from 11 a.m. until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Kevin Hand. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Starks Davis; daughter, Bobbye Joe James and husband Rodney; son, Vernon Skip Davis Jr. and wife Judy; five grandchildren, Kellie Davis, Kristie Goings, Jason Davis, Lynley Langlois and Amy James; and two great-grandchildren, Dawson Goings and Bralyn Davis. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank C. Davis Sr. and Iola Jones Davis; and brother, Frank C. Davis Jr. Pallbearers will be Jason Davis, David Starks, Jerry Starks, Jackie Starks Jr. and Clarence Starks III. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
