Vera Lucille McKnight Johnson

Vera Lucille McKnight Johnson passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born November 15, 1931, to Emmett and Eunice McKnight. She was a graduate of Istrouma High School and a member of Zoar Baptist Church. From age 16 to 86, Vera taught and cared for children, teaching Sunday School and Awana. She worked in nurseries with bed babies, day care, Vacation Bible School, and Parents Day Out. This was her first love and her precious legacy.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Edward Johnson; parents, Emmett and Eunice McKnight; granddaughter, Candace Johnson; brothers, Ray McKnight, Robert McKnight, Don McKnight, Victor McKnight, and Irwin McKnight; sisters, Virginia Peters, Faye Whitefield, and Shirley Harriman.

She is survived by her children, Cindy Hughes (Joe), Eunice “Nunie” Berthelot (J.D.), and Allen Johnson (Alicia); grandchildren, Sarah Gautreaux (Josh), Chad Johnson (Keisha), and Seth Berthelot; and great grandchildren, Claire Gautreaux, Abby Gautreaux, Alyssa Gautreaux, Savannah Miller (Sam), and Harlow Johnson; siblings, Richard McKnight, Janette Hansen, and Carolyn Covington; and numerous other relatives.

Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Hughes, J.D. Berthelot, Allen Johnson, Josh Gautreaux, Chad Johnson, and Seth Berthelot.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A visitation will be held at Resthaven beginning at 9:30 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later date.
