Our loving mother and wife, Arden Allen Doherty, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2016 at 82 years old. Arden, a free spirit, was full of life and laughter, and passionate about her, family, friends and her Lord. She had an infectious personality and generous nature.
She was born in Baton Rouge, attended Baton Rouge schools and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in elementary education. She married Lewis S. Doherty III on April 6, 1956. Arden taught in public and parochial schools for approximately thirty years, with primary desire for all children to learn to read and write. She was an active member of the Arts League, PEO, Junior League, Woman's Club, and Parkview Baptist Church. Arden attended Trinity Episcopal Church for twenty years to worship with her family. Over the years she enjoyed the company of her friends in her sewing group and Sunday school class. She and her husband enjoyed many years of travel around the word.
Arden is preceded in death by her parents, Julius Myles and Vera Brown Allen. She is survived by her devoted husband, Lewis S. Doherty III, and children; Lewis S. Doherty IV, Allison Doherty and her husband Scott Ricca, and Allen Doherty and his wife Kara Stuckey Doherty.
Arden has two grandchildren, Myles Doherty and Ryan Schuette, wife Katie Reading and two great-grandchildren, Jonas and Lauren. She has one sister, Geri Doran and her husband Dick Doran of Parachute, CO, and niece Nancy Cooley of Grand Junction, CO, and nephews, Jeff Doran of Phoenix, AZ and Rick Doran, predeceased. Also supportive during this time was her Brother-in-law Tony Doherty and his wife, Cindy James Doherty of Hattiesburg, MS and nephew Tony Doherty of Winnsboro, LA and niece Ellen Rooney of Baton Rouge, LA. Sons and grandsons will be pallbearers.
Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. on October 29, 2016 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, followed by services at 2 p.m. The family wants to thank the caregivers of Hospice of Baton Rouge's Butterfly Wing for the amazing love and care they gave Arden.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge and Baton Rouge Area Foundation First Responder's Fund.
