Thurman Crowe Peele, age 88, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022.
Crowe attended high school in Fayetteville, NC. He was a three-time Carolina Golden Glove light heavyweight boxing champion. He then attended LSU on a boxing scholarship, and he was the NCAA collegiate heavyweight champion in 1955.
Crowe is survived by his wife, Betty Hunter Peele, with whom he would soon celebrate 56 years of marriage. Betty was his caregiver, and the love of his life. He is survived by his 4 children: Robbi Peele of Long Beach, CA, Jason Peele (Monica Lynn) of Texas, Monica Peele Geiger (Edward) of Falls Church, Virginia, and Nancy Louise Peele of Washington, D.C, 6 grandchildren: Peyton Peele, Chandler Peele, Mallory Peele, Anna Grace Geiger, William Geiger, and Louisa Geiger, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his family, and was preceded in death by his parents Sydney and Debra Peele, 3 brothers: Sydney, Brooks, Bruce, and 4 sisters: Lucille, Vernon, Ruth, and Ollie Mae.
The services will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral, on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022. Visitation will be 11 am – 12 pm, with the funeral service beginning at 12:15 pm.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, or your favorite charity, in memory of Crowe.
The family of Crowe wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and aides at St. Joseph’s, and his primary care physician, Dr. Leo Blaize.
