Thomas Ray Stringer, born June 5, 1938 in Stringer, Mississippi and a resident of Baton Rouge, departed this life on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the age of 75. He graduated from Richton High School in Richton, Mississippi and earned a bachelors degree in business administration from Livingston State Teachers College in Livingston, Alabama. He was an honor graduate in both high school and college. Thomas served two years in the United States Army. He was employed for 28 years with Exxon Company, USA serving as a field superintendant in south Louisiana. He served as a deacon in various Southern Baptist churches for 30 years. He was a loving husband and father who always saw the bright side of things and always had a joke to tell. There was nothing that he couldnt fix and he never passed up an opportunity to be of service to others. He never met a stranger and was truly loved by all who knew him. Thomas is survived by his wife of 51 years, Annie Mary Walker Stringer, daughters Virginia Annette Stringer of Decatur, Georgia and Jana Leigh Stringer of Shreveport, Louisiana, sister Anita Stringer Grantham of Ellisville, Mississippi, nephew Robert Blackledge of Montgomery, Alabama, niece Jamie Walker Batey of Shreveport, Louisiana, nephew James F. Walker, Jr. of Gainesville, Georgia, canine grandson Basil Rathbone Fawlty, and three greatnieces and one greatnephew. He is preceded in death by his parents Otis Smith Stringer and Virginia Elizabeth Thornton Stringer. A memorial service honoring Thomas will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00pm at Broadmoor Baptist Church 9755 Goodwood Blvd. in Baton Rouge. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00pm until the start of the service. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Gerald Militello, the staff of the 4th floor oncology unit at Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet, the staff of Butterfly Wing Hospice at Baton Rouge General MidCity, and Jeryn Briggs, RN of Pinnacle Home Health. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pediatric AIDS Foundation or the Louisiana State University Golden Band from Tigerland.
