The Reverend John B. Austin, 80, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Reverend Austin attended Tulane University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and worked to receive his Masters degree before moving on to the University of the SouthSchool of Theology. There he received his Bachelor of Divinity. He continued his education at University of New Orleans where he received his Masters degree. The Reverend John Austin was ordained on June 28, 1958. He was a priest, scholar, and an educator to many. He served many parishes in the Episcopal Dioceses of Louisiana, Pittsburgh, Virginia and was the Director of Testing and Research for Jefferson Parish schools for 20 years. Reverend Austin is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, The Reverend Margaret Sutton Austin. He also leaves behind two children, his daughter, Cintra Pemmie A. Sheasby, and his son, John B. Austin, Jr. a sister, Thelma Fry, and brother, The Reverend James H. Austin, Jr. 4 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Austin, M.D. and Thelma Wood Austin. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church in New Orleans, Louisiana from 10 am until a memorial service at 11 am conducted by The Right Reverend James B. Brown retired Bishop of Louisiana, and The Reverend John Stone Jenkins. Interment will be in Trinity Church Columbarium. Donations may be made to the SPCA Baton Rouge.
