Ted A. Bourgoyne Sr. passed away at the age of 88 on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 8:55 a.m. at the Carpenter House. He was born on January 12, 1928, was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, and graduated from Baton Rouge High in 1945. He served in the US Army during peace time, and played the saxophone in the army band. He was a theatre projectionist for 46 years, and was a self-taught, very talented pianist. He was a kind, gentle man who loved deeply, and valued honesty, hard work and family. He was always willing to help anyone in need, and give them shelter - even though our home was already overcrowded.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anerson and Cleora Bourgoyne; brothers, Joseph Anerson (JA) and John Cecil; daughter, Sally Ann Bourgoyne; and granddaughter, Katherine Michelle Holloway.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Johnnie Ruth Foust Bourgoyne; his children, Susan Hopper, Therese, Teddy, Lana and William Bourgoyne, and their spouses; grandchildren, Kimberly Holloway Giles, Courtney, Caleb, Nathan and Sawyer Glueck, and Nick Bourgoyne; and great-grandchildren, Alex and Sam Giles. Pallbearers are Caleb, Nathan and Sawyer Glueck, Joey Giles, Leon Tranchina and John Bourgoyne Jr.
Visitation will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until services at 12:00 p.m., to be conducted by Rev. Ken Brown. Interment will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at PACE and Always Best Care for the care, love and support they provided to Daddy over the last six years. Because of them, we were able to keep him and mom in their home together. Special thanks and love to Chanti Smith for sticking with Papa right up to the end.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Joseph's Carpenter House.
