Sylvia Chachere

Sylvia Jane Barbre Chachere, a beloved matriarch and role model to a devoted family, died peacefully at 6:50am Thursday, May 26, 2011, in her bedroom at Old Jefferson Community Care Center, Baton Rouge. Ms. Chachere, 80, a native of Opelousas, was a faithful wife and loving mother who enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, sewing, shopping with her daughters, and spending time with family and friends. Survived by her children: four daughters and sonsinlaw, Cynthia and James Higdon, Baton Rouge Leslie and Mark Maeser, of Phoenix Patricia and David Senn, Baton Rouge and Clare Chachere and Ramsey Abarca, Austin, Texas three sons, Donald Chachere Jr. and wife Catherine, Opelousas John Chachere and wife Doreen, Raleigh and Alex Chachere, Youngsville three sisters, Wilma Neveu, Louise Dupont and Angie and husband Bennie Primeaux 21 grandchildren and many other family and friends. Ms. Chachere was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Chachere Sr. and parents, Sylvia and John Barbre. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, May 27, from 5pm to 8pm, with a rosary at 7pm. Visitation at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church , 16166 South Harrells Ferry Road, on Saturday from 11am until funeral Mass at 1pm with the Rev. Tom Ranzino, celebrant. Entombment in St. George Catholic Church Mausoleum.
