Sydney Massey McBride passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024. She was 86 years old.
Sydney, a long-time resident of Baton Rouge and New Orleans, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 24, 1938, to Cecil Robertson Massey of Stamps, Arkansas, and Kathleen Quigley Massey of Liverpool England. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Phillip Massey; sister-in-law, Juliette Landry Massey and second husband, John Mitchell “Bob” McBride. She was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School.
Sydney was married to the late John M. “Mickey” Green for 23 years and they had five children, John Michael "Mike" Green, Jr., Stephen Patrick "Pat" Green, Daniel Bryant Green, Barry Scott Green and Betty "Peyton" Green Gaudiosi.
Sydney enjoyed a long career as a floral designer, first with By’s Florist in New Orleans and then 30 years with Billy Heroman’s Flowers in Baton Rouge. She loved reading, gardening, flowers and birds. She was an active member of the Hill Top Arboretum and a member of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church at 9150 Highland Road, Baton Rouge on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11 a.m. Public visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. in the church’s chapel.
