A teacher for Jefferson Baptist Kindergarten and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 10:40 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. She was 53 and a native of New Orleans. A graduate of Newcomb College of Tulane University and a wife of 31 years, Susan was also a homemaker, teacher, wonderful cook, and loving wife and mother. She was also a campaign executive for United Way for three years. She was proud that she was born to shop and always kept a clean house. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, July 6, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes in the chapel on Tuesday from noon until service at 2 p.m., conducted by Paul Anderson, pastor. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by her husband, Kevin Michael Murphy; daughter, Claire Elizabeth Murphy and fianc Drew Blanchard; son, Keith Michael Murphy and wife Amanda Albin; and sister, Bonnie Schexnayder and husband Merlin. Preceded in death by her father, John Van Hees; and mother, Elaine Van Hees. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
