A retired plumber with Local 198, resident of Baton Rouge and native of Philadelphia, Miss., he died at 7:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 93 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater from 1942 to 1945. He served as a tank driver and a tank destroyer driver and in six major campaigns. He saw much action and saw five of his tanks destroyed. He is the recipient of thePurple Heart and Croix de Guerre. He served in North Africa under Gen. George Patton. He ended his career with the rank of sergeant. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wed. Feb. 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Collin Wimberly. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by two daughters and sonsinlaw, Janet T. and Michael E. Brown and Rebecca T. and Gerard G. Nijoka a sister, Hester Herring four grandchildren, Dawn Neill, Laura Brown, Amber Hodge and Stephen Nijoka and wife Jennifer three greatgrandchildren, Garrett Hodge, Mikayla Nijoka and Riley Nijoka. Preceded in death by his wife, Josie Lee Tullos parents, Temple I. and Ida C. Tullos a sister and three brothers. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
