Steven Paul Diefenbach “Diefy/Papa D/Papa”, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away, March 11, 2021 at the age of 68. He was a native of Highland, IL, born May 29, 1952, and was the son of the late Paul J. Diefenbach and Francis J. Diefenbach.
He received his B.S. degree in Organic Chemistry from LSU in 1974; received his PhD from University of Georgia; and Post Doctorate at University of Chicago.
He was a Sr. R&D Advisor Chemist for over 45 years for Albermarle Corporation and Albermarle Catalyst, Baton Rouge (formerly Ethyl Corporation), and he was the inventor and contributor of over 50 chemical patents and publications.
Steve was a very honest and humble man that will be truly missed by family & friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved traveling, watching LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints Football; relaxing in his most favorite place, the beaches of Florida; where he loved spending time with his wife and beautiful family. He was also a respected member of Parkview Baptist Church in Baton Rouge for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Cela Haire Diefenbach; sister, Stacey Diefenbach of Maryland Heights, MO; his children, daughter, Johonna Murphy of Perth, Australia; step-son, James “Jake” Smith and wife Shannon of Meadville, MS; step-daughter, Janci Smith Stover and husband Jerremy of Roxie, MS; and grandchildren, Bronson Smith, Alandra Stover and Sadie Stover. He is predeceased by both parents, Paul J. Diefenbach and Francis J. Diefenbach.
Services will be held at Parkview Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, March 19, 2021, memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m. with visitation will beginning at 10:30 a.m. Food & drink available in the Mission Café following the memorial service. Services are being coordinated by Resthaven Funeral Home, Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge.
