Beloved husband and father, Stan lost his courageous two-year battle with throat cancer on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitation resumes Thursday from 9 a.m. until memorial service at 10 a.m. A brief graveside service will follow. Stan was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., on July 1, 1928. After serving for two years in the Marine Corps, he returned to West Lafayette, Ind., to attend Purdue University, where he graduated in 1952 with a degree in chemical engineering. He retired from Copolymer Rubber Chemical Co. in 1983, after serving as director of engineering and then vice president of operations. He also held a process patent he helped develop for the Copolymer Addis plant. He was a consultant at CIBA at LSU following retirement. He was an emeritus member of the American Chemical Society and also licensed to practice engineering in Louisiana and Texas. He enjoyed many years of golf with his faithful foursome, has been a loyal member of Sherwood Forest Country Club for more than 45 years, having served on the board of directors and as president. He loved automobile racing, astronomy and history. Survived by his devoted and loving wife of 31 years, Frances Francine Groves; and son, William Bill Groves, of Prairieville. Preceded in death by his parents, Leland Stanford and Velma Lucille Groves, of Findlay, Ohio; sister, Anna Lee Price, of Dallas; and brother, Robert Groves, of Indianapolis. Honorary pallbearers are William Groves, John Groves, Bob Westmoreland, Stan Stock, Billy Briggs, Jim Flower, Jim Mayes and Raymond Pillow. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the medical staff and doctors Judd Patten, Brian Petit and Robert Fields, as well as our devoted and compassionate caregiver, Willie Mae Selvage, and her staff.
