Shawn Thomas Welborn, 44, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Shawn was an avid outdoorsman, frequently enjoying chasing speckled trout, red fish and tuna at the family camp in Grand Isle and early mornings drinking coffee in the duck blind in Maringouin. Though he was far from fluent with the duck call, he gave his all with every hail and chatter. Shawn was a graduate of Redemptorist High School where he graduated with honors and earned a scholarship to Texas A&M University at Galveston with his academic prowess. He eschewed life in Texas and chose to enroll at Louisiana State University. He did not complete his course studies, but he certainly had a good time trying. Shawn served in the United Stated Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Lance Corporal before his honorable discharge in 1998. After college and his life in the Corps, Shawn trained under Chef John Folse at White Oak Plantation. He traveled the world honing his culinary skills, spending extended periods of time in Lyon, France and London, England. After returning home to Baton Rouge, he worked as the Executive Chef at Digiulio Brother's Italian Restaurant for over a decade. While he loved running a kitchen, his heart told him to seek another adventure. Shawn began network certification classes and worked as a Network Specialist at the time of his death. Shawn is survived by his nieces and nephews, Chandler, Kennedy, Austin, Thomas and Annie, by his brothers Jason (Ginger) and Matthew (Rebecca), by his parents Thomas and Judy Welborn, and by his paternal grandmother, Anna Welborn. Shawn is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Leonard Petitti, and by his paternal grandfather, Mr. Owen Welborn. Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, in Baton Rouge on Sunday, September 3, 2017, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Monday, September 4, 2017, at 10:00 AM, until services and burial at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jason, Matthew and Chandler Welborn, David Elias, Marcel Lalonde, and Nick Lea.
To have known Shawn was to have heard his laugh and seen his smile. He will be dearly, dearly missed.
