He passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009 in Qole Gerdsar, Afghanistan fighting for our freedom. He was a resident of Bentonia, Mississippi and a native of Lafayette, Louisiana. He was 43 years old. He was a graduate of Christian Life Academy and Louisiana State University. An avid outdoorsman and hunter who particularly enjoyed the company of friends and family. He also enjoyed riding his custom chopper. He was an Engineer Sergeant in the United States Army Company C, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group Airborne. He will receive a Purple Heart and has received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, NATO Service Medal, Operation Enduring Freedom Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Medal with Stars, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Medal wM Device, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, Mississippi War Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, SPECIAL FORCES TAB, Free Fall Parachutist Badge, Combat Driver Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Canadian Parachutist Badge and the German Bronze Parachutist Badge.Visiting will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, on Thursday, August 13 from 12pm until service at 3pm. Conducted by Bro. Steve Pearson. Burial in Arlington National Cemetery.He is survived by his wife, Tammy Allison Summers; parents, West Charlene Summers; three daughters, Jessica, Shelby and Sara; Maternal Grandmother, Marguerite S. LeBlanc; one sister, Andree Freeman of Sanford, North Carolina; three brothers, Captain Sean Summers, Sergeant Pierre Summers of Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Lieutenant William Summers of Fort Polk, Louisiana; and thirteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Severin and Mary Summers; Maternal Grandfather Albin Major; two uncles, Van Major and Joe Smith. Pallbearers will be, Captain Sean Summers, Lieutenant William Summers, Sergeant Pierre Summers, Beau Major, Sergeant First Class Shannon Lott and Staff Sergeant Chet Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Special Forces Soldiers of ODA 2236, CWZ Kendall Townsend, MSG Mark Avila, MSG Ed Yellowhair, SFC Robert Lammers, SFC Geoffrey Sey, SSG Pete Dolan and SSG Timothy Knox.
