Sarah Kathryn (Katy) Kitchen died on October 22, 2016 at the tender age of 16.
Katy loved her family and taught us to think outside of the box and see things differently. She taught us new ways to eat vegetarian, which none of us embraced! She taught us to love all people, all religions and all political parties. She lived her short life turning our world upside down. She believed that religion in America didn't love people well enough, feed the hungry well enough, take care of the sick or the lonely well enough. Had her body not failed her, Katy would have loved the world differently and it would have been a beautiful sight.
Katy never judged anyone but loved them for who they were and where they were in life. She had a unique style and loved practicing on her own makeup and hair and on her sister, Kristen. The two girls spent hours listening to music and doing makeup and hair. She idolized her oldest brother, Blake and talked about how he handled life. She wanted to follow in his footsteps and do life like him. Patrick, her older brother closest in age to her, was her best friend. She loved him deeply and would always hug just to annoy him. Katy loved hanging out with Patrick and his friends. He was her defender and confidante.
Katy introduced her parents to "Dr. Who" and watched every episode with us. Katy absolutely loved her homeschooling group. She said this was the best year she had ever had, she only wished she didn't have to take math! Katy loved to sing and sang constantly around the house and she loved her voice lessons with Mrs. Kathy. She worked part time at "Heads and Tails" seafood restaurant for Mr. Michael. She loved and respected her boss and all the crew at Heads and Tails. She loved telling "work" stories about the wonderful people she worked with. Katy also had a second job babysitting for a family on a regular basis. Babysitting for Catherine and John became so much more than a job as she fell head over heels in love with these two kids. She entered their world full force, loving and caring for them deeply.
Katy always sought out the lonely or the newcomer when she entered a room. She has impacted her family and friends in great ways, teaching all of us to love deeper.
Katy is survived by her siblings, Kristen, Blake and Patrick Kitchen; parents, Melody and Brian Kitchen; grandmothers, Kim Hough and Patricia Kitchen; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Walter Kitchen and maternal grandparents, Marshall and Sudie Hough.
