Sandra Annette Wells Wilson received her promotion to Heaven on August 12, 2021. A few days earlier, she had told family that if by some miracle she survived her cancer for enough years to see her three grandsons to full adult maturity, then it would have been worth the arduous surgeries and convalescence. But if she passed before that happened, then she couldn’t lose; she would be seeing Jesus, her mother, and her daughter Kristi, among others. How comforting it is for her survivors to know the heart of such a strong and authentic Christian! Sandra was born on March 3, 1943 to Irene and Gordon Wells in Baton Rouge, LA. She was in the Butterfly Unit of the Baton Rouge General Hospital when she peacefully passed away in her sleep, at 78 years of age. Sandra was a 1960 graduate of Istrouma High School. She earned a B.S. in Education from LSU, 1964. She also earned a Master’s degree in counseling from Southeastern University in 1997. From an early age, Sandra wanted to be a Spanish teacher. She lived on different occasions in Mexico City and Nicaragua so that she could be immersed in the Spanish language, to be better able to educate others in that foreign tongue. Between the teaching and counseling employments she had in East Baton Rouge Parish from 1964 to 2016, she worked at: Broadmoor High School; Prescott Junior High; Scotlandville Middle Magnet; Zachary High School and The Brighton Academy. She developed a keen interest in family genealogy, and traced the ancestry of both the paternal and maternal lines. One of her proudest and fondest moments was confirming in some Virginia archives a maternal grandfather who was born in 1776. And during that same genealogy trip, an expert genealogist surmised the original maternal ancestor back to 1650 Virginia census records. Preceding her in death were her parents, Irene and Gordon Wells of Baton Rouge, LA, and her daughter, Kristi May, also of Baton Rouge. Surviving her are; son and daughter-in-law, Martin (Marty) and Tonya Wilson; daughter, and son-in-law Kim and Brian Manix; son-in-law, David May; grandsons, Brayden Wilson, Hunter Wascom and Hudson May; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Dr. Lynn Aurich; brother and sister-in-law, Randall (Randy) and Martha Wells; brother Alex Holtsford and his family in Montgomery, AL; nephew, Dr. David Aurich, and niece, Dr. Susan Aurich. Sandra was a long time member of Parkview Baptist Church, with her Sunday School members being a most precious group to her. Viewing will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, to be followed by the funeral and then Internment, also at Resthaven.
