Sandra Harling was born on October 22, 1953. Her mother Bobbie Furlow Wheat of Hazlehurst, Mississippi was married to Chalmers Van Wheat Jr. of Rio, near Bogalusa, Louisiana in February 12, 1950. Sandra attended grade school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and ultimately graduated from LSU in 1975 in Baton Rouge with a degree in Business Education. After that, she worked at Exxon (now ExxonMobil) for a year and a half before meeting John Leslie Harling who was on loan from Imperial Oil in Canada to Exxon Chemicals Technology in New Jersey. John was sent to Baton Rouge to start up a benzene hydrofiner second stage unit that he had designed in New Jersey. They met in a stairwell at the Exxon Chemicals head office and then in the office of another employee. Within six months, they married at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Goodwood Boulevard in Baton Rouge and headed up to New Jersey where they resided for two months before being sent to Baytown, Texas as the first two of the move of Exxon Chemicals Technology to Baytown. They lived in west Houston for a short while until they bought a house in Kingwood, Texas. For forty-one years, Sandra was a wonderful wife to John Harling before passing away from a brain aneurism on March 11, 2018. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded by her mother Bobbie in 2011 and her father Chalmers Van Wheat, Jr. ("Buck") in May, 2017. She leaves behind her two brothers, Chandler Layne Wheat, with son Jonathan Wheat, and Chalmers Van Wheat III, married to Linda Green Wheat.
Visiting hours will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Jefferson Highway on March 30th from 12:00 (noon) to 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service given by Pastor David Melville. Burial will immediately follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
