Captain Samuel A. Pruet, Sr. retired, 76, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away on August 18, 2016 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Samuel A. Pruet, Sr., was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Samuel King Pruet and Oralee Keith Pruet on March 6, 1940. He graduated from Istrouma High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp immediately following his high school graduation. He married Ethel Fremin Pruet on May 12, 1961 with whom he had five children. He attended the first Drug Enforcement Agency Academy and numerous law enforcement courses throughout his career with the Baton Rouge City Police Department. He retired at the rank of Captain with the Baton Rouge City Police Department in 1990. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an active member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Samuel A. Pruet, Sr., is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel King Pruet and Oralee Keith Pruet, his sister Gaynell Pruet Curtis, and his daughter Patricia Ann Pruet. He is survived by his spouse of fifty five years, Ethel Fremin Pruet and their four children, Margaret Pruet Brown and son-in-law Darryl K. Brown, Samuel A. Pruet, Jr. and daughter-in-law Hope Moore Pruet, Tammy Pruet Northrup and son-in-law Richard E. Northrup, and Janet Pruet Lahners and son-in-law William S. Lahners, III; his grandchildren Celeste Coarsey, husband Caleb, Nicole Sims, husband Wade, Brandon Pruet, Christopher Brown, Paige Pruet, Samuel A. Pruet, III, and Sean Pruet; his great grandchildren Presley Coarsey, Bradlee Coarsey, Hudson Sims, and Peyton Sims; and his sisters Corine LeClercq and Dorothy Cambre and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Pruet, Christopher Brown, Samuel A. Pruet, III, Sean Pruet, Stephen Cambre, and John Good. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Buchmann, Wendell Olinde, Charles Spillers, Will Laborde, and all those who served with him in the undercover narcotics division of the Baton Rouge City Police Department.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home with the Rosary at 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church followed by a funeral Mass with Father Michael Collins and Father Phil Spano officiating. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
