The longtime owner of Samuel's and D'Agostino's Restaurants and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, after losing a battle with cancer. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until service at 11:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jerry Martin. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He graduated from Catholic High School in 1970 as a three-sport letterman. He graduated from LSU in 1974 with a degree in business administration and was a member of SAE fraternity. Mardi Gras was his favorite time of year and he was a board member of the Krewe of Orion. He was also an honorary member of the Grandsons of Italy. Survived by his wife of seven years, Cherie D'Agostino; son, Samuel D'Agostino Jr. and wife Cara; daughter, Amy D'Agostino; stepdaughter, Alicia Beane; granddaughter, Isabella Lynn D'Agostino; and a grandson due in February. PawPaw loved to always have a prize for his little angel, Isabella. He had three sisters, Toni Chenevert and husband C.J., Angela Gurina and husband Tommy and Rose Mary Jeasonne and husband Dr. Louis; several nieces and nephews, Carmie Berry, Jerry McWart, Kimberly Chenevert, Lou and Bryan Jeansonne; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jami Purpera and husband Jeff, Katie McWart and Cruz Bridges. Preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Angie D'Agostino. Pallbearers will be Jason Berry, Joey Berry, Sammy Chenevert, Lou Jeansonne, Bryan Jeansonne and Nickie Dimaio. Honorary pallbearers are Kip Holden, Sid Gautreaux, Anthony Gallo, Joey Cockerton, B.J. Lott, Krewe of Orion board members, Darren Coates, Charles Harvey, Frank Coates, Vic Roth, Bryant Thibodeaux and Michael Matte. He had lots of friends. Everyone he came into contact with became his friend. His best friend was his son, Samuel D'Agostino Jr. He was very proud of his son and will be watching over him, saying, Son, listen to your dad. He is also very proud of his daughter Amy; she made him glow. He was also very proud of his stepdaughter, Alicia, who has been part of his life since she was 5 years old. Family was very important to him. He always did for everyone else, not once did he think about Sammy. What a wonderful man.
