Sally Brown

July 6, 1937 — November 22, 2007

alignjustifyBeloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sally lost her courageous battle with cancer on Thanksgiving day, Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, surrounded by her family. It is only fitting that she died on Thanksgiving because she always said she had a lot to be thankful for and always told people to take the time to count their own blessings and thank the good Lord for them. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, was on Sunday, Nov. 25, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visitation resumes at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, La. 73, Prairieville, on Monday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Eric Gyan. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Sally was a native of Baton Rouge, a resident of Prairieville and attended St. Joseph's Academy. She was 70 years old, born July 6, 1937. An avid fisherman, traveler, beach lover and LSU fan, she had the voice of an angel. She loved people and was well-loved in return. She was known for her good nature, ready smile and huge heart, especially when it came to children. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Emmett Brown Jr.; daughter, Tara and her husband, Ed LeBlanc, of Morganza; sons, Michael Bug Brown, and Robert Bobby and his wife, Carla Brown, all of Baton Rouge; and daughter, Sallyanna Brown, of Prairieville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Robert and Britney Brown, both of Baton Rouge, Annalyn Brown, of Prairieville; stepgranddaughter, Michelle LeBlanc Phillips and her husband, Jonathan, of Houma; and stepgreat-granddaughter, Elise Phillips, also of Houma; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gretchen Stanard and F. Posey Ratelle. Pallbearers will be Michael Brown, Bobby Brown, Robert Brown, Ed LeBlanc, Taylor DeRousselle, Charles Brown, Patrick Brown and Jay Ratelle. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Blinn, Gerard LeJeune, Jerry Daigre and Roger Bowlin. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the many members of the medical community who helped us through this journey, especially Feliciana Home Health Services, particularly Vicki, Cindy and Betty, Hospice of Baton Rouge, particularly Dr. David Hanson, the nurses of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Dr. Jack Reid and Dr. Charles Mitchell. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Hospice of Baton Rouge or the Sisters of St. Joseph's at www.sjabr.org.
