A retired federal marshal with the U.S. Federal Protection Service, Russell L. Dunn, 87, passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Baton Rouge General Medical CenterBluebonnet. Russell was the kind of man who loved people. He was always ready to help anyone at any time. He was the kind of guy who could walk up to anyone and make friends everyone loved him. The smile that was always on his face was his trademark. Russell came into our family full of kids and fit in from the start. It did take a while for him to keep the names straight, but of course he mastered it. He loved camping with his family. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a second class gunners mate on an LCI 72. One of his favorite things to do was to visit the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, Fla. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Sunday, Feb. 6, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Lee Allen. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his wife, Elodie LeBlanc Dunn daughters and soninlaw, Dianne Peaches and Terry Morales, and Deanna Altazan son and daughterinlaw, Louis R. and Elaine Altazan sisters, Olivia Loudon and Lucille Olton eight grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Floye Dunn brother, Bobby Dunn and a grandson, Trey Burge. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Byrd, Andrew Kuyoro, Kenneth McAlister, Cullen Buquet, T.L. Morales and Bruce Burge. He was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
