Rudolph Godwin Stevens

Rudolph Godwin Stevens, was born in Banana Bank, Belize on 15th April, 1936. He met his beloved wife Myrna (Young) Stevens in 1961 and they married 13th November 1961.  In the late 1970’s Rudolph migrated to United States, followed by his wife, Myrna and children in 1980.  He was employed by Bill Simons, his beloved boss and owner of Simons Plating Company in New Orleans, LA, until his retirement.  Rudolph resided in New Orleans, LA from 1978, through 2005.  During this period Rudolph and his wife were active members of Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church in New Orleans and Rudolph served two terms on Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church Vestry.  Rudolph and his wife moved to Baton Rouge, LA after Hurricane Katrina.  Rudolph was a hard and skillful worker, who enjoyed repairing things and outdoor gardening.  He was very friendly and never met a stranger.  Rudolph passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the age of 87.  He was the last surviving child of seven children born to Benjamin Steven and Ann Joseph.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Myrna Young Stevens. His four children, Mark Stevens (Tresler), Karen Stevens Williams (Willie), Gordon Stevens (Pamela), Dorea Stevens-Scheringer (Johnny) and adopted son Lee Jones (Adelia). Grandchildren, Essie, Curtis, Benjamin, Michelle, Jessica, Kristina, Christian, Ian and Devan.  Great grandchildren, Anthony, Marcus, Mariah, Noah, Ethan, Langston, Eli, Mia and Mycah.  Also survived by Sister-in-law Melba Jean Staine, Sir Colville Young (Norma) George Walford Young (Marlene) and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 3:30 p.m. until Funeral Service 6:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Monday October 16, 2023 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1222 N Dorgenois St, New Orleans, LA 70119, from 10:00 a.m. until Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.  Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans, 4000 Norman Mayer Ave, New Orleans, LA 70122.  Pallbearers will be Robert Staine, Wayne Smith, Carlton Stevens, Lee Jones, Brent Wiliamson, Willie Williams, and Brian Scott.  Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Declouet, Trevor G. Bryan, Freddy Perriott, Anthony Cadogan, John Scheringer, Cornell Taylor, Bob Carles, and Charles Young.

The family would like to give special thanks to Lee Jones and Adelia Vargas, Erna Leslie, Ms. Jean Coleman, Carol and Charlie Young, Bob Carles, Sam Joubert, Debra Joubert, Cornell and Yolanda Taylor, Brent Williamson, Dorian Bonaino and Pastor Rice of Lighthouse Family Fellowship.
