Rudolph Melon Sr., 83, referred to as Big Rudy or Honey Dew Melon, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Rudolph shared a love of the sea and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1944 until 1947. He then served in the U.S. Air Force for four years from 1950 to 1954. While serving in the Air Force in Manchester, England, Rudy met and married the love of his life, Ellen Patricia Pat Monahan Melon. During his working years, he was employed by Holzel Sheetmetal, Copolymer and Anco Industries. He was a jackofalltrades and helped anyone in need. He was a devout Catholic and loved his family. Rudys last wish was to have his casket transported from the funeral home to the gravesite in the rear of his pickup saying, It would be his last ride. Special thanks goes to Hospice of St. Joseph and Joan Eaton. Mr. Melon was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ellen Patricia Monahan Melon parents, Arnaud Joseph and Amelia Cokkinaki Melon two older brothers, George A. Melon and Jules P. Melon and faithful dog, Boo Boo. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters and their husbands, Denise and Randal Morton Sr., of Ball, Tina and Russ Mayeux, of Treasure Island, Fla., and Jane and Nels Jensen, of Baton Rouge son, Rudolph Melon Jr. and his companion, John Tudor, of Huntsville, Ala. grandchildren, Randal Jr. and wife Angela Morton, Brandon Morton Sr., Benjamin Morton and Rebekah Morton and greatgrandchildren, Tatum Morton, Brandon Morton Jr., Khloe Morton and Randal Morton III. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Thursday, April 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home chapel Friday, April 30, from noon until service at 1 p.m. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
