Baton Rouge, LA: A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Royce Julius Leonard Sr., 80, at the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Cleo Milano celebrating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
Royce was born May 30, 1933 to Abel Anthony and Bertha Dugas Leonard in Baton Rouge, LA. With his family at his side, he passed away Sunday, Feb 9, 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after a lengthy illness.
Royce was a graduate of University High and LSU. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and resigned as a Captain in 1962 after serving as a jet pilot instructor. He retired from Unisys Corporation in 2001 after 39 years of service in sales management positions. He was member of Krewe Mystique de la Capitale, Krewe of Bacchus, and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife Beverly Clebert Goudeau Leonard of Baton Rouge, LA one brother, Abel Anthony Leonard Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA daughter Marie Leonard Clark and husband Tommy of The Woodlands, Texas daughter Annette Leonard Vaccaro and husband Jeff of Baton Rouge, LA, son Royce J. Leonard, Jr. of San Francisco, California two grandsons Justin Clark and wife Jessica and Jeffrey Vaccaro Jr. two granddaughters, Danielle Clark and Whitney Vaccaro and great granddaughter Leigh Camille Clark Stepdaughter Jacqueline Marie Goudeau of Baton Rouge Stepson Stuart L. Lenn Goudeau, Jr. and wife Patricia and stepgrandchildren Courtlenn, Trey and Brielenn Goudeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marie Granada Leonard, and stepgranddaughter Ashlenn Goudeau.
Honoring Royce as pall bearers will be Tommy Clark, Jeff Vaccaro Sr., Justin Clark, Jeffrey Vaccaro, Jr., Lenn Goudeau Jr., and Peter J. Losavio, Jr. Honorary pall bearers will be Abel Leonard, Alvin J. Daigle, Trey Goudeau, Sylman Dauzat, and Daniel Warrick.
He was an angel, one of the sweetest souls that entered our lives. He brought joy and kindness to us all. He had a gift of knowing when to come to ones aid and offer support when it was most needed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Quyen Chu and Dr. Tannaz Armaghany of LSU Health Shreveport FeistWeiller Cancer Center and Dr. Christopher McCanless and the staff of Baton Rouge Hematology Oncology Clinic for their patient and considerate care Suzie Boudinot and Lisa Comeaux of Hospice of Baton Rouge for their compassion to Royce.
