Roy Francis Aicklen, Jr. passed away on January 29, 2022 at 70 years old. Roy was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Lois Anderson Aicklen and Roy Francis Aicklen, Sr. The family moved to Baton Rouge when he and his sister Bonnie were very young. Roy’s adored stepfather, Robert Bates, entered his life early on and introduced him to many of the hobbies that became his lifelong passions. Roy graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1969 and studied construction in college. He worked as a master carpenter and ultimately a Superintendent, retiring in 2017 after 40 years of dedicated service. Always the Eagle Scout, Roy could fix anything. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending time with his family in Cocodrie. Roy also loved to entertain family and friends by boiling crawfish or frying fish.
Roy was preceded in death by his mother Lois Aicklen Bates, Father Roy Aicklen Sr. and stepfather Robert Bates. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Laurie Oldenburg Aicklen; his son Matthew (Lauren) Aicklen, his daughter Allison (Brady) Richard; and siblings Bonnie Aicklen Johnson, Gregory Aicklen, and Michael Aicklen. Roy had five grandchildren that adored their Pops: Brynlee, Camille, and Hudson Aicklen, and Addyson and Katherine Richard. He was Uncle Ronnie to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm followed by a prayer service at Resthaven Funeral Home located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The burial service will immediately follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
